The Promise...

The Promise continues... However as June smiled on the world around us, our hearts were torn asunder with the news that my wife had pancreatic cancer and was not expected to live to see our anniversary in August let alone her birthday on September the 7th. We were devastated, but held fast to our faith in the Lord. I kept telling Leah that all was going to be well and that I would take her to Tybee as I promised and to this dear lady I had never broken a promise. Sadly she continued to decline in health as I waited on her twenty four hours a day. She shocked the doctors in that we saw our anniversary and surprised them even more as the family gathered by her bed to wish her happy birthday as her spirit was leaving this world for a greater reward above. She died on her birthday in my arms…but I still had a promise to fulfill.

With the coming of Thanksgiving came the fulfillment of my last promise that I made to my wife. I bought an unsinkable waterproof box and filled it with mementos of our last fourteen years on Tybee. There were things that would mean nothing to anyone but Leah and me. There were things like the first seashell we ever found together; love notes written on napkins from diners all around the island. A lock of her hair and mine and of course photos of our happy and blessed days frolicking by the sea. I then chartered a private boat that took me tem miles out to sea and in a private ceremony I released the love of my life and our memories to float on the sea of our love forever as the lone captain filmed the entire event. Someday I will post this video for all to see, but for now only these words suffice. And the story Continues...
